Your name is on a memorial ornament made out of shells…… I should be calling your name while looking FOR shells. Your face is in our yearly ornament with angel wings….your face should have been the one PICKING out our ornament this year. So many things that should have been that are not. We will never understand why, but we can rest in the fact that we will see you again one day.
Christmas is a time of year that should be joyous. A time to celebrate. But for some of us, we can only grieve. A part of us is missing.
But in that grief, we have hope! My cousin, who unexpectedly lost his wife this year at a young age also, posted a thought on social media that someone he loves is spending Christmas in Heaven this year. I wanted to share with you what I wrote to him.
“Your wife and my husband are enjoying the best Christmas ever! It just makes Christmas that much more important because of that baby being born that night, we have the opportunity to see them again one day!”
Y’all….this is it! I know we spend Christmas with loved ones, and buy them gifts and all…but why? What is it for?? We NEED to remember why!!
We are celebrating the birth of a baby…..not just ANY baby! But the Son of God! This baby, whose birth we celebrate, would be the one to be the Savior of the world!!
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[f] because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1: 20-21
That baby, would grow up to become that man who hung, and died, on the cross for our sins.
With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,[c] he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!” Mark 15: 37-38
And by hanging on the cross for our sins, Jesus allowed us to be forgiven of our sins, once and for all, which allows us to enter Heaven.
“ For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. “ John 3:16-17
Because that baby (Jesus) was born in that manger in Bethlehem on the night that we celebrate as Christmas, I have the hope and the promise that I will see my beloved again.
THAT is why Christmas is important. Let’s not forget!
